Communion (or "the Holy Eucharist" or "the Lord's Supper") is a core part of our community. To commune is to live together. Just as prayer is a way of communing with the Lord, so is the Eucharist. We celebrate the sacrament every time we gather. We remember the meal Jesus ate with his disciples known as the last supper. It was also the night Jesus was betrayed. Jesus took the bread and he broke it. He said, "This is my body broken for you." He was referring to the horrible death he would soon experience. He then took the cup of wine and said, "This is my blood poured out for you." Again, referring to the sacrifice of his own life.
When we partake of the sacrament, we remember. But we do more than just remember. We believe the Lord meets us at the table and extends his loving grace to us. We believe the sacrament is a holy moment where Heaven and Earth move close to each other and we have an intimate time with the Lord.
While the Eucharist is only for Christians, we would love for anyone to participate. If you are not yet a believer but you're wrestling or questioning, please come forward during communion with your arms across your chest and we would love to say a blessing over you. We want to bless you as you consider what it might look like to follow Jesus; not push you away. We believe the Lord blesses our curiosity.
